Microsoft Outlook Lite announced for Android

The problem with developing apps for Android is that developers need to pick and choose which devices to support. This is because there are so many configurations ranging from the super budget to the super high-end, meaning that smaller developers might not necessarily have the resources to ensure that their app works for every single device.

Thankfully, Microsoft isn’t bound by those constraints and if you happen to own a low-end or much older Android phone, the company has announced the launch of Outlook Lite. As the name implies, this is a Lite version of the company’s Outlook email app for Android.

Similar to other Lite apps we’ve seen in the past, Outlook Lite will feature a much smaller download at about 5MB in size. It has also been optimized to make it faster, which might help with devices that have 1GB of RAM. Microsoft also claims that the new app is better at battery efficiency, and will also work across older and slower networks that still use 2G and 3G.

Now, the bad news is that it looks like the app won’t be available everywhere just yet. According to Microsoft, the initial launch will cover Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and Venezuela, but the company says that they are planning to add support for more countries in the future.
