Thanks to Google’s partnership with iFixit, users who want to repair their Pixel devices themselves will be able to access genuine components and tools needed to get the job done. But how do you know what you’re doing?
For those who own the Pixel 6a, it appears that Google has since published the official repair manual for the phone. Unfortunately, it appears that for now the manual is completely written in French, but hopefully there are plans to eventually release one in English and also other languages for other regions.
As noted by 9to5Google, the manual mentions that it’s designed for the “Pixel 6a and later”, suggesting that Google will eventually release manuals for other phones like the Pixel 7 series. The manual is also incredibly detailed and complex, showing the breakdown of the Pixel 6a’s components, how to take everything apart and put it back together, how to repair it, how to replace components, and more.
It is most definitely not for novices (unless they’re willing to take the risk of potentially damaging their phones), and Google even puts a disclaimer mentioning that repair work should only be undertaken by professional repairers or users who have “appropriate technical experience”.
Regardless, this is still a good thing because at the very least it gives users options when it comes to repairs, instead of paying for first-party repairs which can be more expensive than third-party options.
