The Pixel 6a seems to be easier to repair than its siblings
Some people buy phones and use them for a year or two before moving on. Others tend to keep them longer, and if you fall into that camp, then repairability might be a priority to you. After all, if a phone is too difficult and too expensive to repair, it might simply be cheaper and more efficient to just get a new one.
The good news is that if you were planning on getting the Google Pixel 6a, a recent teardown video uploaded by PBKreviews has shown off the innards of the handset, taking them apart piece by piece. Based on the teardown, it appears that the Pixel 6a could prove to be an easier repair job compared to its siblings, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
This is mainly due to the fact that the Pixel 6a seems to use less glue to hold the battery in place, plus the fact that the OLED panel is also easier to detach from the motherboard, thanks to the use of a ribbon cable. For the most part what this means is that if you need to change the battery or the display of the phone, usually two areas that most likely need repairs or replacing, it won’t be too much of a chore.
Also, keep in mind that with Google partnering up with iFixit, customers will also have a much easier time getting their hands on official components and tools that they might need to do the repair themselves if they feel like it.
