ChromeOS will soon get better at ensuring your passwords aren’t weak
The security of our online accounts are really only as strong as the password’s we’ve chosen. The problem with choosing strong passwords is that they can be difficult to remember, so more often than not, people tend to choose something simple and reuse that password for multiple logins (which is a big no-no, by the way).
Now, the good news for ChromeOS users is that according to a report from About Chromebooks, they have discovered a potential update to ChromeOS in which Google could be building in a password strength checker. This means that whenever users choose a password, ChromeOS will be able to tell users how strong or weak their passwords are.
If you’ve ever used a password manager, then this is actually a feature that you might already be familiar with. The problem is that not everyone uses a password manager, knows about a password manager, or chooses to use one, so having a similar feature that’s native to ChromeOS could be quite useful for many users.
Google already has their own password manager service where if you save website passwords to the Chrome browser, you can use that tool to check on your password’s strength, but like we said, a native feature would be more convenient. We’re not sure when this feature is expected to make its way into ChromeOS, but it could be something to keep an eye out for.
