Want to make a note on a website that you’re currently reading? One of those ways right now would be to keep a note-taking app open, like Notepad on Windows or Notes on Mac, or Google Docs if you prefer, and take notes while you browse.
The good news is that if you’re a Chrome user, in the future you might actually be able to take notes directly in the websites that you are reading. This is according to a post on Reddit in which Redditor u/Leopeva64-2 discovered the feature in the latest Chrome Canary build. Basically how it works is that users can highlight any text that they want, right-click it, and then select “Add a note”.
When that happens, a side panel to the right of the website should appear with all the notes that you’ve taken on a particular page. In a way, it’s kind of similar to how comments and suggestions appear in Google Docs, so if you’ve used that before, then this shouldn’t be too unfamiliar of an experience.
We should point out that this feature was originally discovered back in March in commits made on the Chromium Gerrit, but back then the feature appeared to be in the early stages of development, so this latest discovery actually gives us a better idea of what to expect. There is no word on when Google is expected to push out this new feature, but it sounds like it could be pretty useful and it would be a nice addition to the browser.
