Qualcomm teases new Snapdragon chipset for smartwatches
Qualcomm doesn’t only just make chipsets for phones, the company also makes chipsets designed for wearables like smartwatches. But unlike the chipsets designed for phones, Qualcomm’s chipsets for wearables don’t seem to be updated or refreshed on the same annual basis.
In fact, it has been about two years since the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 was launched, making it kind of long in the tooth by tech standards. The good news is that it looks like that could change soon, according to a short teaser video Qualcomm posted onto Twitter.

In the teaser video, it is captioned “The clock is ticking on something big” followed by images of a chip die and an image of a smartwatch, leaving nothing to the imagination as to what this teaser is about. The company stopped short of actually mentioning when this new chipset will be launched, but since they’re already posting teasers, we imagine that the official announcement shouldn’t be too far behind.
At the moment not much is known about this chipset, but according to Android Police, they speculate that it will most likely continue to use the same ARM Cortex-A53 cores, but it will be built on the 4nm process, making it considerably more energy-efficient than its predecessor built on the 12nm process.
