At the moment, posting a collaborative tweet basically involves users tweeting and then tagging the other person, or two users tweeting the same thing at the same time and tagging each other. It’s not the most elegant of solutions, but that could change in the future.
According to TechCrunch, Twitter has started to test out a new feature called “CoTweets”. As the name implies, this allows users to co-author tweets together. In a statement provided to the publication by a Twitter spokesperson:
“We’re continuing to explore new ways for people to collaborate on Twitter. We’re testing CoTweets for a limited time to learn how people and brands may use this feature to grow and reach new audiences, and strengthen their collaborations with other accounts.”
In a way this is similar to an Instagram feature where users can create collaborative posts with another user, and the post will show up in both their profiles. Twitter says that this CoTweet feature will only be available for select accounts in the US, Canada, and Korea for a limited time as they are testing to see how users use the feature.
It is unclear if CoTweet will ever become a mainstay feature, but we suppose that’s what the test is for.
