Based on what we’ve observed over the past few years, come 2023, the majority of flagship smartphones launching in that year will most likely be powered by a new Qualcomm flagship chipset. The current flagship is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that debuted last year.
This means that come 2023, we can expect phones to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, assuming that’s the name Qualcomm will be going for. Now according to a slip up on Qualcomm’s website, we know when the chipset is expected to be announced and it will be during the Snapdragon Summit held from the 14th-17th of November, 2022.
For those thinking it might be odd that Qualcomm would announce its 2023 chipset in 2022, it’s really not. The company usually unveils its next-gen chipset a little ahead of time, like when they unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 back in 2021. This is more of an announcement to share the details of the chipset, and it’s only the following year that we see smartphones that take advantage of it.
The event listing on Qualcomm’s website has since been taken down, leading us to believe it was posted in error. While it’s possible the dates might not be 100% accurate, like we said, Qualcomm launching the chipset a few months before the end of the year isn’t unprecedented.
We should have more details in the coming months, so check back with us then for more updates.
