Back in the day, companies would sell apps for a fixed price, meaning that once you’ve paid, you’re all set. These days, we’re starting to see more developers turn to subscriptions and it’s not surprising why. After all, a steady stream of revenue instead of hoping to generate more sales is more enticing.
So much so that it honestly doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Snapchat is working on a subscription program as well. This was confirmed by The Verge in which Snap spokesperson Liz Markman told the publication:
“We’re doing early internal testing of Snapchat Plus, a new subscription service for Snapchatters. We’re excited about the potential to share exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features with our subscribers, and learn more about how we can best serve our community.”
This came on the heels of a post on Twitter by researcher Alessandro Paluzzi who shared screenshots and other information related to Snapchat Plus. According to the leaked information, some of the features Snapchat Plus subscribers can expect include pinning one of your friends as your “#1 BFF”, changing the Snapchat icon for better customization, and seeing who rewatches your stories.
So… by subscribing to #Snapchat+ you can:
1️⃣ Pin a friend as a #1 BFF
2️⃣ Get access to exclusive Snapchat icons
3️⃣ Display a badge in your profile
4️⃣ See your orbit with BFF
5️⃣ See your Friend's whereabouts in the last 24 hours
6️⃣ See how many friends have rewatched your story— Alessandro Paluzzi (@alex193a) June 16, 2022
The leaked screenshots also suggest that Snap could be pricing the subscription at around $48.50 a year, but as The Verge notes, it could simply be a placeholder price. Not too long ago, Telegram also announced their own subscription service, so like we said, Snapchat’s decision isn’t too surprising.
