Samsung has recently released the Android 12 update for the Galaxy Xcover 5, one of its rugged-styled Android handsets. The new update brings some stability fixes, and addresses some security and privacy issues.
The Android 12 update is currently available for several European regions, and comes with version number G525FXXU5BVE5. It also brings One UI 4.1, which has been made available for several other Samsung Galaxy phones. The new update includes features like the Color Palette feature, improvements to the Dark Mode interface, and redesigns to some widgets. Additionally, One UI 4.1 also comes with the Privacy Dashboard feature, and will let you check which apps access your camera and microphone in real-time.
Right now, the Xcover 5 is the only rugged Android phone in Samsung’s device line-up, although several leaks point to an upcoming successor, referred to as the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro. The phone is expected to feature a basic TFT display, and will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G SoC, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
If you own a Galaxy Xcover 5 and are in Europe, you can check if your phone is eligible for the update by going to your Settings App, heading down to “Software Update,” and tapping on “Download and Install” to initiate the download process.
