Verizon’s BYOD program will now support smartphones with eSIMs

eSIMs are pretty useful, especially on devices that support dual SIM functionality. This is because if you’re traveling overseas and want to use a local SIM, you can put your primary number into the eSIM and use a physical SIM in the country you’re visiting.

This is because not all countries and carriers support eSIMs, and even then, tourist or short-term phone plans might not be available in eSIM format either. The good news is that if you own a device with an eSIM and you’re planning to move over to Verizon, the carrier has announced that eSIM smartphones are now supported in Verizon’s BYOD program and that users can activate their devices themselves from the comfort of their own home.

That being said, it should be noted that right now, the only devices that are supported include the Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra, as well as Apple’s iPhone 11, 12, and 13 series, along with the Google Pixel 4a, 4a 5G UW, 5, 6, and 6 Pro. Newer devices like the Samsung’s foldable series or the Galaxy S22 series aren’t supported yet, which is kind of odd, but presumably they will be added at a later date.

Also, something else to keep in mind is that based on comments by users posted on social media, the tool to activate your device isn’t working correctly and some users aren’t able to activate their smartphones on Verizon. Hopefully it will all be sorted soon, but those are things worth noting if you’re planning to make use of this tool.
