Google’s next-gen Tensor chipset could be built on the 4nm process

When it comes to the power of chipsets, obviously having more cores that are clocked faster is one way to address its performance. Another way would be the process that the chipset is manufactured with, and in the case of Google’s next-gen Tensor chipset, word on the street has it that Samsung is expected to manufacture it using the 4nm process.

This is according to a report from DDaily.co.kr where according to the publication, Samsung will be manufacturing the chipset using the 4nm process, an upgrade over the original Tensor chipset that was made using the 5nm process.

For those unfamiliar, using smaller processes basically means that the chipset is now smaller, bringing its circuitry closer to each other which in turn not only makes it faster, but more efficient. Think of it like driving, where the shorter the distance to your destination, the faster you’ll reach and the less fuel you’ll consume.

Assuming the report is true, by using the 4nm process, Google’s next-gen Tensor chipset will be made using the same process as other flagship chipsets such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It also makes it “better” than Apple’s A15 chipset which was built using the 5nm process.

It is largely expected that this next-gen Tensor chipset will find its way into the Pixel 7 phones which were teased earlier this month at Google I/O 2022. There’s no word on an official launch date yet, but we expect it will probably be in Q4 2022 later this year.
