Over the years, Xiaomi’s Black Shark phones have gained a following due to their impressive hardware specs, performance, and relatively affordable price. The phones have proven to be a viable alternative to more expensive gaming smartphones from competing brands, and as such, it looks like the company is set to release its latest one soon (on an international scale, at least).
A post from the official Black Shark Malaysia Facebook page confirms the global launch of the Xiaomi Black Shark 5 series, which is scheduled on June 8th, 2022. The post reads “Your go-to gaming companion Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro are almost ready to be pushed to the limit. The all-new Black Shark will launch on 8/6/22 live 7PM on Facebook and Tiktok.”
The Black Shark series phones – which includes the 5 and 5 Pro in particular – were launched earlier this year in China. The base model 5 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 SoC, while the Pro version is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets.
The Black Shark 5 series succeeds the brand’s Black Shark 4 Pro, which was released back in 2021. In terms of specs, the phone had some impressive hardware which included a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, 144Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888, and a dual-layer liquid cooling system.
So far, no prices have been announced for the Black Shark 5 phones in international markets, but we might see a follow-up announcement from the brand soon.
