Finally! Google Assistant has landed for the Samsung Galaxy Watch4
Earlier this month, Google announced that it will be working with Samsung to provide Google Assistant functionality to Samsung Galaxy Watch4 users. Today, Samsung has formally announced that the smart assistant service is now available for the device, and owners of the wearable can finally use the service on their watches.
The official statement reads “Samsung Electronics and Google jointly built a unified Wear OS platform that creates a seamless connection across Android devices. The platform comes with Google Play, which gives users access to some of the most popular apps and services from Google, including Google Maps, Google Pay, and YouTube Music. Starting today, Galaxy Watch4 users will also be able to download Google Assistant on their devices gaining access to fast, more natural voice interactions, quick answers to questions and on-the-go help. With access to both Bixby and Google Assistant, consumers will have access to more advanced voice assistant functionality right from their wrists.”
Samsung also added that Google Assistant will be available in 10 different regions including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, The UK, and USA.
Currently, the Galaxy Watch4 series is one of the very few devices with the most up-to-date version of Google’s Wear OS platform. Up until today however, Google Assistant functionality was absent from the Galaxy Watch devices, although it was available on competing Wear OS watches from other brands.
In the past few years, we’ve seen more collaboration between Google and Samsung, particularly on software advancements for Wear OS. Previously, Google announced that its Health Connect API for Android is currently in the works, with Samsung offering development input and assistance.
