Acer unveils new Chromebook Spin 714 and Chromebook Tab 510 hybrid computers

There are many Chromebooks out there in the market today, but if you’re the type of person who appreciates the hybrid computer design where a computer can morph into a tablet and a laptop, then you might want to take a look at some of Acer’s latest Chromebook offerings.

The company has taken the wraps off a bunch of new Chromebooks which includes the Chromebook Spin 714 and the Chromebook Tab 510 which we will be taking a look at today.

Starting with the Chromebook Spin 714, the name kind of makes it obvious. This is a laptop with a display that can be folded around and transformed into a makeshift tablet. Under the hood, the device will be powered by up to an Intel Core i7-1260P processor and supports as much as 16GB of RAM along with Intel’s Iris X integrated graphics.

It also comes with a 14-inch IPS touchscreen display that supports resolutions of up to 2460×1600. One of the features we like about this device is that it also comes with a built-in removable stylus so that when in tablet mode, you can use it to draw or jot down your notes. There’s also a built-in fingerprint reader and it is MIL-STD-810H rated for durability.

For those who prefer a more tablet-ish experience, there is the Chromebook Tab 510. This is more of a tablet than a laptop, but it does feature a keyboard folio case that you can use to attach to it and turn it into a productivity machine if you need one.

Under the hood, the Chromebook Tab 510 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 chipset and comes with up to 4GB of LPDDR4X SDRAM and 64GB of storage. Similar to the Chromebook Spin 714, the Tab 510 also features a dockable (included) stylus that you can use together with the device when the need arises.

One of the perks of using the Qualcomm chipset in the Chromebook Tab 510 is that it supports LTE connectivity, so if you’re on the go and need an internet connection, this will make it easier compared to hotspotting or looking for public WiFi.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is expected to be available this August and will be priced starting at $750, while the Chromebook Tab will be launching this July starting at $400.
