Sonos is a company that many might be familiar with when it comes to smart speakers, but it seems that Sonos could be looking to expand on that by possibly introducing their very own digital assistant called Sonos Voice.
This is according to a report from The Verge who were tipped to the company’s plans by their sources. By launching their own digital assistant, Sonos will make it easier for users to play and control their music playback using their voice.
At the moment, Sonos’ products already support digital assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, both of which have worked fine all these years, but presumably like most companies, Sonos would prefer if users were locked into their ecosystem. We’re not sure how much different Sonos Voice would be compared to other digital assistants or why users might want to use it over existing options.
Sonos has actually been hinting over the years of their plans to create their own digital assistant. This was seen in things like customer surveys, screenshots, and more, but it looks like that will all be coming to fruition soon. The report from The Verge claims that Sonos is expected to officially unveil Sonos Voice on the 1st of June in a software update.
It is expected to be available for those in the US first before it starts rolling out to international markets.
