Meta appears to be developing a new means for WhatsApp users to send messages to their friends and family without having to touch their phones. The current beta version of WhatsApp (v2.22.9.13) has evidence indicating that the messaging software may soon allow you to send out a message only using your voice on the Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses, according to an APK deconstruction by XDA Developers.
According to the strings discovered during the disassembly, this functionality will allow you to narrate a message to a voice assistant without having to remove your phone from your pocket.
If the Assistant feature is implemented, it will be useful when you’re out and about and need to send a WhatsApp message to someone. Your discussions will very certainly be encrypted end-to-end, which isn’t unexpected considering WhatsApp’s focus on security. However, there is no assurance that it will be made available to the general public. Furthermore, considering Ray-Ban Stories’ current limited market reach, the feature is unlikely to benefit a significant percentage of WhatsApp users.
Owners of Ray-Ban Stories who prefer to utilize Messenger will be relieved to know that Meta published an update late last year that brought hands-free Messenger capability to the smart glasses. This allows you to send and receive messages from your wearables using voice commands.
Hopefully, this plan for ongoing support will continue for those early adopters who got into the smartglasses game early!
