While LG might have pretty much exited the smartphone market, it seems that they could be helping Samsung advance theirs. According to a report from The Elec out of Korea, it appears that LG will be the one to supply Samsung with the batteries needed to power the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.
It’s no secret that Samsung and LG are rivals. Both companies make almost the same type of products. We’re talking about TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, monitors, and so on, so clearly both companies view each other as rivals, but they have also been known to work together from time to time, and this is one instance of them doing just that.
Samsung had previously relied on LG Energy Solutions for batteries in its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series, so it’s not a complete shocker that they are now working together again for the Galaxy Z Flip 4, although we have to wonder if this partnership could also extend to the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Prior to that, Samsung themselves were the ones supplying the batteries to its foldables, but it is possible that LG’s batteries are more efficient or cheaper which could explain why Samsung is looking to diversify its supply chain. At the moment there is no word on when Samsung is expected to announce their new foldables, but it will be some time later this year.
