Xiaomi’s POCO sub-brand has certainly seen a lot of growth since the launch of its original POCO F1 smartphone, which gave enthusiasts top-level specs at reasonably affordable prices. Its continued timely release of smartphones annually has shown that the brand has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon, and new details have emerged that point to a much-anticipated POCO handset.
POCO has been sending out formal invites for an upcoming event for the phone, which will be held on April 26, 2022 through an online presentation. The specs for the POCO F4 include Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and up to 12GB of RAM, with many speculating that it could be a rebranded Redmi K50 Gaming phone. In terms of software, the phone will launch with Android 12, alongside Xiaomi’s MIUI software.
This is further supported by a recent Geekbench listing which shows a Xiaomi handset with the model number “21121210G.”
The upcoming smartphone will serve as a sequel to last year’s POCO F3, which launched with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 chipset, a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, and a 4520 mAh battery. It proved to be a popular device thanks to the premium chipset, as well as the design which incorporated Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, as well as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
POCO sells a variety of phones with different models based on the specs list and price, with the “F” models offering more high-end features. Meanwhile, its “X” phones have more in common with mid-range handsets, while the POCO “M” series phones primarily feature lower-end specs.
POCO was originally created as a sub-brand of Xiaomi, alongside its Redmi line of phones. The brand focuses on developing and selling phones which feature high-end chipsets and internal components, albeit at affordable prices compared to the majority of mainstream smartphone manufacturers. It’s not uncommon to see POCO, Mi, and Redmi phones share the same design and specs however, similar to what BBK Electronics does with its Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus sub-brands.
Fans of the brand can expect an official list of specs and features once the POCO F4 launches later this April.
