A while back, HMD Global released the Nokia XR20, which according to the company is their toughest phone yet. As part of their current device line-up, HMD promises that the XR20 will receive up to three years of OS updates, and it looks like the company is living up to its word based on a recent report. A Twitter post from user Juho Lemmetyinen shows a screenshot of what appears to be a system update on the Nokia XR20. Additionally, users from Finland are saying that their devices have received the latest Android OS update.

The screenshot appears to be from the March 2022 system update for the device. As with most updates on android phones, this is most likely a staged rollout, meaning that users in certain regions might get it ahead of other XR20 owners. The Nokia XR20 originally launched with Android 11 last year. The device is touted by Nokia as a highly durable smartphone, featuring a chassis reinforced with rubber and polycarbonate, in order to protect the phone from the elements. The phone has an IP68 rating, and the screen is equipped with a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus.
The device however runs on the rather low-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G, a chipset usually seen on low-end smartphones. Other specs include a 4630 mAh battery, and the choice of a model with 64GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage with 6GB of RAM.
HMD Global’s takeover of the Nokia brand resulted in the manufacturer joining Google’s Android One initiative, which meant selling smartphones that come with Google’s recommended software and hardware standards, in addition to regular Android OS upgrades. While Android One seems to have quieted down in the past few years, Nokia still provides most of its smartphones with regular software updates.
