Mobile World Congress 2022 technically doesn’t start until Monday, February 28, but TCL is wasting no time as the company is announcing a total of five new phones now. All of these phones fall under the TCL 30 family of devices, following the announcement of the 30 XE 5G and 30 V 5G that were announced at CES 2022.
It should come as little surprise, but there are a few characteristics that are shared across the different options TCL has just announced. Before diving into the specifics, here’s the entire list of phones that TCL is bringing to the market:
All five of these phones range from €139 (~$157) to €249 (~ $281), so it’s clear that TCL is content on providing solid and reliable budget-friendly options in an increasingly crowded space. But we’ve seen TCL make some impressive devices in the past few years, so hopefully, these continue that trend in various markets.
Essentially, TCL has separated these five phones into two different categories, and that’s evidenced by the spec sheet. The TCL 30, 30 5G, and 30+ all make use of a 6.7-inch AMOLED display sporting an FHD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, things are pretty similar, with the TCL 30 and 30+ being powered by the MediaTek Helio G37 while the TCL 30 5G opts for MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 to provide the 5G connectivity. All three of these phones also offer 4GB of RAM along with up to 128GB of storage that can be expanded thanks to the built-in microSD card slot.
Where TCL is really trying to make a dent, at least in the budget market, is in the camera department. No matter which of the five phones announced today you are considering, all of them feature a main 50MP rear camera lens. In fact, four out of the phones provide a 50MP/2MP (depth)/2MP (macro) configuration, while the TCL 30 E ditches the 2MP macro lens for a dual-camera setup.
Another area where TCL is looking to entice users is in the battery department as the TCL 30, TCL 30 5G, and TCL 30+ are equipped with a 5,010mAh battery complete with 18W fast charging support. The other two phones in the lineup feature a 5,000mAh cell, and can reach charging speeds up to 15W.
In the past, we’ve had the privilege of being able to check out TCL’s different phones, and there’s always one thing that stands out. Even if performance doesn’t really meet our expectations, TCL continues to impress when it comes to its display technology. All of the phones in the TCL 30 series feature the company’s NXTVISION technology, while the three larger options are also certified by TÜV Rheinland. This means that the emitted blue light has been reduced by 30%, which can go a long way to help out the health of your eyes when staring at your phone for long periods of time.
If you’re intrigued by what TCL has announced, those in Europe don’t have long to wait. Here’s the pricing and availability breakdown for all five models:
It’s not all that often that we see a company announce a total of five phones at the same time. But TCL is continuing to make a big splash in 2022 by offering more and more options that fit every need and price point in the budget market.
