One of the best parts about CES 2022 is that we get to learn about new and exciting products, devices, and accessories that will make their way into our homes in the near future. This includes the over-ear headphone market, which is currently dominated by the likes of Sony and Bose. However, the Shure Aonic 40 look to change that with an impressive set of features and an equally-impressive price.
The Aonic 40 comes in just below Shure’s excellent Aonic 50, priced at just $249. But for that price tag, you’ll enjoy customizable Active Noise Cancellation, USB-C quick charging, and up to 25 hours of battery life. But the best part, about the battery life at least, is that these are rated for more than 20 hours of use even with ANC turned on. Of course, it still falls a bit short of Sony’s industry-leading WH-1000XM4s, but 25 hours is nothing to turn your nose up at.
As for the specs, Shure packs support multiple codecs, including aptX, aptX HD, AAC, and SBC. And if you don’t feel like messing around with pairing them via Bluetooth, the Aonic 40 can be used with a 3.5mm wired connection instead.
In addition to the three levels of active noise cancellation, you’ll also enjoy an “Environment Mode”, which is essentially just Transparency Mode so you can hear what’s going on in the world around you. All of this can be controlled right from the ShurePlus Play app, so you don’t need to fiddle around with on-device gestures and controls.
In the box, you’ll get the Aonic 40 headphones, a 3.5mm audio cable, a carrying case, and a USB-C charging cable. Unlike other accessories being introduced during CES 2022, the Shure Aonic 40 headphones are available starting today, and you’ll be able to get them before the end of the week.
