If it weren’t obvious by now, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will bring back the Galaxy Note form factor

While much attention is being paid to the potential upcoming release of the Galaxy S21 FE, some of us have our sights set on the Galaxy S22 lineup. Mainly, the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Sure, both the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus will be fine handsets with many of the flagship specs that we expect to see from Samsung. However, ever since the rumor mill began churning in regards to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the phone is shaping up to be one of the most interesting options we’ve seen from the Samsung camp.

Early renders showed a complete redesign is in the works, which comes as a bit of a shock given that the Galaxy S21 Ultra was one of the best-designed phones of the year. However, there’s a big reason why Samsung is going back to the drawing board with the Galaxy S22 Ultra and it has everything to do with the S Pen.

With the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Samsung brought its beloved S Pen support to its best phone. This was a necessary move given the decision to forgo the Galaxy Note 21 completely in 2021. Even the Galaxy Z Fold 3 features S Pen support, showing that Samsung may have given up on the Note, but it understands that its customer base still wants stylus support.

Thanks to a new leaked render from @evleaks, it seems that the frustrations surrounding where you were supposed to put the S Pen when pairing it with the Galaxy S21 Ultra are going to be put to rest. If these renders come to fruition, Samsung will essentially be turning its ‘Ultra’ Galaxy S22 into a Galaxy Note. The phone will be thicker and slightly wider than its predecessor, all while sporting an S Pen slot on the bottom.

In fact, if you were to put these renders of the Galaxy S22 Ultra next to the Galaxy Note 20, there is definitely a striking resemblance. Perhaps this is a sign that the Galaxy Note line is truly dead, and the company will now pivot to the S22 Ultra and presumably the Galaxy Z Fold 4 as the two primary phones to take full advantage of the S Pen.
