Google hits pause button on December update for the Pixel 6

Updates are meant to introduce new features and fix bugs, but sometimes updates can actually be the cause of the bugs in the first place. Such is the case with the December 2021 update for the Pixel 6 handsets, which is why Google has confirmed on their forums that they will be pausing its rollout.

This comes on the heels of reports from Pixel 6 owners in which they have experienced calls dropping or disconnecting after they updated their phones. The good news is that Google has since fixed the issue, but the bad news is that they won’t be pushing out the update this month, but will instead combine it with January 2022’s update. According to Google:

“The Pixel team paused the December software update to Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices after some users reported calls were dropping or disconnecting. We have now identified a fix that will roll out in a software update by late January. This update will also include all the fixes and improvements that were originally planned in December.”

For users who have already updated to the update before the announcement and Google hitting the brakes on its rollout, Google has suggested that users can always try and rollback to an earlier Android build if the bug is becoming too disruptive. For those who have updated but don’t have any issues, then no action is required on your part.
