New renders suggest the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is going to include a massive camera puck

Now that Qualcomm has announced its next flagship chipset, we’re starting to see more devices announced with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Motorola has already unveiled the Edge X30, and we’re expecting the Xiaomi 12 Ultra to make its debut within the next few weeks. However, while we continue to await the official announcement, LetsGoDigital has shared some pretty incredible-looking renders of the device.

Just like how the Mi 11 Ultra offered an incredibly unique take on the rear camera module, complete with a rear-facing display, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is again expected to offer a unique rear camera module. Instead of the rectangular module that we are used to seeing on devices, these renders show that the 12 Ultra could end up making your phone look like there’s an ultra-thin DSLR camera lens on the back of your phone.

From the renders, we can see that there will be at least four cameras, complete with additional sensors and an LED flash bar. Not much is known about what sensors will actually be used with the 12 Ultra. However, we are expecting Xiaomi to make use of Samsung’s 50MP Isocell GN1 lens acting as the wide-angle camera. From there, we’ll likely have an ultra-wide, telephoto, and maybe an additional periscope telephoto lens.

Thanks to these renders, we also have an idea as to what the rest of the phone will look like, including the front. Xiaomi is expected to pack in a 6.8-inch OLED display with at least a 120Hz refresh rate. We won’t be seeing an under-display camera, but instead, it’s likely that we’ll just see a hole-punch selfie camera like we are used to seeing on other devices. Other rumored specs include the potential for a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging, and we could see charging speeds up to 120W.

We’re still waiting for the Xiaomi 12 series to make its debut, but we likely don’t have too much longer to wait. Rumors suggest a January 2022 launch in China, meaning that we should see an announcement any day now.
