Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 receive another One UI 4 beta update

Before the calendar flipped into December, we were expecting to see the Android 12 update arrive for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. Samsung opened its One UI 4 (based on Android 12) update for its 2021 foldable phones in November, and things looked to be moving pretty smoothly towards a stable release. Unfortunately, that has not been the case as there have been quite a few bugs that have arrived in the later beta releases.

Some of the issues that have been affecting users range from less-than-stellar performance, dark mode problems, and in some cases, users have found their phones booting into recovery mode during the installation process leaving you with a soft-bricked device. Because of this, Samsung has yet to release a stable version of Android 12 yet, and instead, has just pushed a new beta update. As expected, the latest beta doesn’t include any major changes to the way the phones look and work. According to the translated changelog, the following changes have been made (via XDA):

  • Fixed the phenomenon of booting into safe mode or entering recovery mode after update — When booting after update, all values changed to 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio are changed back to the app default
  • Instagram, Link does not open in some apps such as Facebook
  • Kiwoom Securities app does not run

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this is the “magic” update that gets us closer to the final version release. The beta release is only available for Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 owners who are enrolled in Samsung’s One UI 4 beta program. But considering the issues that have been documented, it’s probably for the best that the program is not accepting any new applicants. In the meantime, if you own either of these phones, just be a bit more patient, and hopefully, the stable release will arrive before the end of the year.
