Everyone loves to lambast iPhone owners as they have to “deal” with a notch at the top of the display. Android phone makers have taken to ditching the notch in favor of a hole-punch cutout, but we’ve seen plenty of times where memes are born in an instant. Samsung is one of the companies that has taken part in the parade, but it looks like the joke is coming full-circle.
Thanks to Evan Blass, we have some new renders of the upcoming Galaxy Tab S8 family, which will include the following options:
- Galaxy Tab S8
- Galaxy Tab S8 Plus
- Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
The first two renders are for the Tab S8 and S8 Plus, showing us a uniform bezel around all four sides and corners. It seems that these tablets will follow the same design language as the Galaxy Tab S7, which remains one of the best Android tablets out there. However, the “fun” comes in with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
Not only have the bezels been slimmed down, but in order to pack in a dual-camera setup, Samsung will be adopting the notch. It’s another example of how Samsung ends up eating a bit of crow, especially if you remember those commercials mocking Apple’s notch decision after the iPhone X was introduced.
Of course, the notch is a necessity for Samsung to implement a selfie camera, let alone a dual-camera system. This does come as a bit of a surprise, but perhaps the company was forced to go down the notch route in order to slim down the rest of the bezels. And instead of just leaving a single selfie camera, Samsung may have decided to “up the ante” and offer a second selfie camera for one reason or another.
Unfortunately, we aren’t sure when Samsung will actually debut its upcoming flagship tablet lineup. But we’re excited to see what the software looks like and whether it will take advantage of Android 12L, along with other features that Samsung could include.
