Xiaomi 12 will be the first smartphone to use Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip

0

Shortly after Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, Xiaomi jumped on the train and confirmed that the Xiaomi 12 will be making its “world debut”. This comes as little surprise given that the Xiaomi 11 was the first smartphone to be available with the Snapdragon 888 in late 2020.

In addition to the banner image that was shared, Xiaomi also posted a teaser video for the device. Unfortunately, Xiaomi didn’t give us any idea of what to expect in terms of design, instead just stating that the mass production of the Xiaomi 12 is underway.

For the time being, all we have to go off of are rumors and leaks, and even still, there’s not much to get excited about just yet. Previously, we’ve seen rumors claim that the Xiaomi 12’s camera system will be headlined by a 200MP sensor, which will likely be Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 sensor with its unique ChameleonCell technology.

From a design perspective, the expectations are that Xiaomi won’t be bringing a drastic redesign to the Xiaomi 12, instead offering a slight upgrade compared to the Xiaomi 11. It’s also possible that we’ll see another smartphone released with an in-display selfie camera, instead of relying on the hole-punch cutout that we’ve become accustomed to.

On the charging front, there’s hope that Xiaomi will integrate its HyperCharge technology. When announced, Xiaomi claimed that with HyperCharge, a smartphone could see wired charging speeds up to 200W and wireless charging speeds up to 120W. Unfortunately, there’s been no indication or confirmation as to whether HyperCharge will make its debut with the Xiaomi 12.

Finally, other than Xiaomi stating that the 12 is “coming soon”, there’s no sign as to when the phone will arrive. Previous rumors suggest that Xiaomi could make its announcement on December 12th (12/12), but we’ll just have to wait and see what’s to come over the next month or so.
