Google Messages can now show iMessage reactions

In any group of friends or colleagues, there will most definitely be a mix of iPhone and Android users. While most messenger platforms like WhatsApp are cross-platform, there are some who probably insist on using iMessage to send their messages and use exclusive features like reactions.

For those unfamiliar, reactions is a feature of iMessage that lets the user react to a message using emojis, similar to how you would react to a Facebook post, a message sent on Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and so on.

Now according to 9to5Google, it appears that Google is allowing Google Messages to display reactions sent from iMessage users. Prior to this, whenever iMessage users would react to a message sent from an Android phone, it would basically describe the reaction, like “Laughed at <message>” and so on.

According to 9to5Google, some Android users are already seeing this update where the emoji actually displays as was intended albeit slightly different. For example, iMessage’s “laugh” reaction is shown as “Haha” on iMessage, but on Google Messages, it shows a laughing face emoji, but users should get the gist.

From what we can tell from our own testing, this update isn’t available to everyone yet as some of our devices still show the old way of displaying reactions, so it could be a while before it makes its way onto your device.
