You might be able to save $65 on the Pixel 5a, courtesy of LG

Although the writing was on the wall, it was still a disappointment to see LG formally exit the smartphone market earlier this year. Since then, OnePlus has tried to fill the void in the flagship space, while Motorola seems keen on picking up the pieces in the mid-range market. But now that Google is trying to be more aggressive with its new portfolio of Pixel devices, there’s a chance for Google to flex its muscles a bit and claim some of the market share.

Surprisingly, it seems that LG is onboard with trying to help Google do just that. LG has started sending emails (via 9to5Google)  to former LG users offering an “exclusive offer for our loyal mobile customers”. But instead of offering a discount on the new Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, this email will save you $65 on a Pixel 5a.

The email itself reads as follows:

Get $65 off Google Pixel 5a with 5G

Meet Pixel 5a with 5G from Google. It’s all you want in a phone: big battery, a great camera, water resistance and super fast 5G.

Exclusive offer for our loyal mobile customers: Get $65 off Pixel 5a with 5G – redeem your offer below. Terms apply.

This comes after Google published a new ad for the Pixel 5a, which is very obviously directed at former LG users. There’s even a clip where a trophy says “Best phone to switch to when the maker of your old phone stops making phones”. It’s obvious that some type of agreement is being made between LG and Google, but in the end, we all win. Especially if it includes saving a few bucks on one of the best mid-range and budget friendly phones out there.

The email doesn’t appear to be arriving for just anyone who’s owned an LG phone before. But we wouldn’t be surprised if more and more people start seeing this discount arrive in their inboxes.
