More Samsung phones will be powered by Exynos chipsets in 2022
At the moment, depending on where you live, your Samsung phone is either powered by a Qualcomm chipset or Samsung’s own Exynos chipset, but come 2022, things could look a bit different.
This is according to a report from ETNews which claims that in 2022, Samsung wants to use more of its Exynos chipsets in its phones. At the moment, it is estimated that about 20% of the company’s mobile products use Exynos as its chipset of choice, but the report claims that Samsung could more than double that in 2022 and make that 50%-60%.
What’s interesting is that Samsung has actually been doubling those numbers since 2020. Last year, it was estimated that about 10% of the company’s phones used Exynos, which means that assuming the report is accurate, more than half of Samsung’s handsets in 2022 could be using its Exynos chipset.
That being said, this might not necessarily be great news for everyone. Samsung’s Exynos chipsets have in the past been drawing criticism as it appeared to be lagging behind Qualcomm. This meant that customers who paid the same price for a flagship phone as someone else in a different region could end up with a slightly less powerful chipset.
Samsung is trying to boost the performance of its Exynos chipset as they have teamed up with AMD for its GPU. This is expected to make its debut in 2022’s Exynos 2200, but it remains to be seen how it will hold up against Qualcomm’s flagship chipset for next year.
