Samsung is betting you won’t splurge on its higher-end Galaxy S22 models

Phones these days are pretty expensive, especially when you look back to the earlier days of the smartphone, where you could grab a flagship handset for about $600. Those days are long gone and we’re now seeing phones that cross the $1,000 mark, with some even passing the $2,000 mark.

That being said, perhaps Samsung is thinking that they should pull things back a bit. This is according to a report from Korean publication The Elec who claims that for the company’s 2022 flagship phones, the Galaxy S22 series, apparently Samsung will only be focusing on the base model.

It is largely expected that the Galaxy S22 series will consist of the base Galaxy S22 and the higher-end Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The report claims that Samsung will focus on the base model and will have it account for 50-60% of the entire series’ production.

This seems to suggest that Samsung is confident that customers will be enticed by the base model’s lower price as opposed to the more powerful, but more expensive Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra models.

That being said, we don’t know what Samsung’s margins are like. It is possible that the higher-end models don’t need to sell too many units to be as profitable as the base model, so maybe Samsung is aiming more for quantity sold.

It is also possible that when the phone is released and based on demand, they could switch things up a bit, but for now, it seems that the company is banking on the base model to make up the bulk of the Galaxy S22 phones that are being shipped.
