Vivo has a crazy new idea for a smartphone camera

Smartphone cameras have evolved greatly over the years where they are more than capable of replacing more traditional point-and-shoot cameras. We’ve seen some pretty crazy camera tech developed in recent times, but it seems that Vivo could be pushing the envelope even further.

A patent discovered by LetsGoDigital has revealed that Vivo is toying around with the idea of a detachable camera system for a smartphone. This camera system sits on the back of the phone where users can slide it up to enable the selfie cam, which in turn also does away with the need for a notch or hole-punch cutout.

On the back of the selfie cam are additional cameras which are for the rear-facing side of the phone, although we have to wonder if they are interchangeable so that users can have even better quality selfies. The camera system also has its own built-in battery which means that it could operate independently of the phone, and there’s a WiFi module that presumably transfers photos to the phone and allows the phone to control it wirelessly.

It’s a pretty wild idea and it’s actually not a bad idea either, but at the same time, we’re sure that there are some who might be concerned that they could lose the camera module, which could then be expensive to replace.

There’s no telling if Vivo will be making this phone and camera system a reality, but what say you? Are you on board with such an idea?
