In a world where phones are now tablets, and small phones are a niche product, it seems that Samsung is going to be aiming for the niche crowd with the Galaxy S22. According to @UniverseIce, the Galaxy S22 will be the “smallest flagship phone” from Samsung, measuring in just slightly smaller than the iPhone 13.
The S22 battery has only 3700mAh. Yes, it's true.
But S22 is Samsung's smallest flagship phone in recent years. Its length, width and thickness are a little smaller than iPhone 13. I like such a small phone and I will definitely buy it. pic.twitter.com/BGADgJ2POO— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) September 17, 2021
There aren’t any specifics provided in regards to how small the screen will actually be. But, looking at the iPhone 13 and its 6.1-inch display, that’s the base that we’ll have to go off for now. While for some, having a small, pocketable phone is wonderful, it does come with one major compromise.
In the same tweet, @UniverseIce stated that the Galaxy S22 will use just a 3,700mAh battery. For comparison, the standard Galaxy S21 features a 6.2-inch display and a 4,000mAh battery. This is definitely a bit disappointing when you consider that the Galaxy S21 already is by no-means a battery life champ.
Many have been hoping for larger battery capacities, but Samsung seems to be okay with moving in the opposite direction. Meanwhile, Apple’s new iPhone 13 is thicker and heavier than its predecessor, thanks in part to the larger battery that is said to provide an additional two hours of juice on a daily basis.
Now, we just have to hope that whatever the next flagship Snapdragon processor being used is more power efficient than the Snapdragon 888. Because if not, you’ll likely find yourself reaching for a charger just to make sure your phone lasts the entire day. Plus, it’s not looking like Samsung’s re-implementation of faster charging will be coming to the standard Galaxy S22, so you won’t be able to get your phone topped off super quickly.
