Samsung is (hopefully) finally bringing back faster charging to the Galaxy S22 Ultra

We’re still a few months away from any official announcement, but that doesn’t mean that the leaks have stopped regarding Samsung’s next traditional flagship. According to a series of tweets from @UniverseIce, there are some pretty welcome changes on the way.

The first of which is that it seems that at least the Galaxy S22 Ultra will support fast 45W charging speeds. This is a big bump over the current 25W “fast” charging available via the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The decision for Samsung to go backwards between the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra is a puzzling one to say the least. Especially when you look around at the other flagship Android phones in 2021 and see charging speeds ranging anywhere from 30W to 120W.

Additionally, it seems as though Samsung and AMD will finally be releasing a joint project in the Exynos 2200. @UniverseIce revealed the frequency data for the CPU and GPU, providing the following information:

This comes after the two companies announced a new partnership to bring ray tracing capabilities to a mobile processor. While there were some hopes that the chipset would debut before the end of 2021. That’s not the case, but it seems like everything is on track with the Exynos 2200 to power at least the international version of the Galaxy S22.

Some less exciting details have also been revealed in regards to what Samsung has in store for the Galaxy S22. After the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and its under-display camera saw mixed reviews, Samsung is likely to stick with the traditional hole-punch notch with its next device. Of course, the UDC in the Fold 3 was a first-generation product for Samsung and we expect the next iteration to be much improved. However, it’s just unlikely that the 2nd-gen UDC will be ready in time for the Galaxy S22 to go into production.
