Google channels its inner Jony Ive to show off the Pixel 5a best feature

0

There’s a lot of focus on the launch of the new Samsung foldable phones, but another device is available starting today and that’s the Google Pixel 5a. To celebrate the launch, Google has published a new video on its YouTube channel. But this one is a bit different, yet familiar, and dare we say, courageous.

Going full circle with the Pixel 5a clearly is a nod to the included 3.5mm headphone jack. This has been one of those hardware features that keeps being removed and added back by different smartphone makers. With the Pixel 5a, Google opted to go for the whole sha-bang, bringing a flagship-like experience to a phone that is priced at less than $450.

In the video, the narrator definitely sounds like someone we’ve seen before, from a different company based out of Cupertino. Much to the chagrin of many, Apple ditched the headphone jack years ago, stating that the move was “courageous” to continue pushing the envelope when it comes to design.

Looking back, one might think it’s laughable, but if you survey the various smartphones available now, there really aren’t too many that still include a headphone jack. Instead, it seems that smartphone makers are leaving this to the budget and mid-range category of devices.

One aspect that is a bit questionable is why did Google spend so much time on a video showcasing the headphone jack, speaking about its importance, if the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro won’t include one? Of course, this video is just to poke fun and have a good time while showing off one of the features included with its latest handset.

Are you going to pick up the Pixel 5a for yourself? Or are you still holding out for the release of the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro?
