Sometimes certain messages don’t always warrant or need a reply. Sometimes replying just “OK” or “lol” seems a bit rude, but it seems that in the future, you can just react to your WhatsApp messages.
This is according to the folks at WABetaInfo who discovered that WhatsApp was testing out a new feature for the app that lets users react to messages. This would be similar to Facebook where users can react to posts with a bunch of different emojis, so instead of commenting, they can simply react with an emoji they feel is appropriate.
This isn’t such a new feature as far as messengers are concerned. Facebook Messenger already allows users to “heart” messages, similar to Instagram. Apple’s own iMessage also allows users to choose an emoji to react with, and LINE also has a similar reacting feature, so if anything, WhatsApp is kind of late to the game (but better late than never, right?).
The post doesn’t say how users can react to messages, and if it will simply be a “heart” like Messenger or Instagram, or if it will allow users to choose from more emojis like Facebook. We have no idea when this feature is expected to roll out to users, but if this is part of a beta or a test, it will probably be a while before it is available for all.
