Next week, all of the accessories and devices announced at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event will be available for purchase. While this means you’ll be able to get your hands on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, it also means that you can enjoy the new Galaxy Buds 2.
Currently, the Galaxy Buds 2 are available for pre-order, priced at just $149, and are available along with the Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds Live. According to CNET, Samsung is retiring the two-year-old Galaxy Buds+ in favor of the Buds 2. Instead of releasing some type of official announcement, CNET spoke with two Samsung customer service representatives after noticing that the Buds+ were no longer up for sale on Samsung’s website. Both representatives “said the buds had been discontinued”.
The Buds Plus has turned into the default option for many, especially those who didn’t want to mess around with Samsung’s bean-shaped design of the Galaxy Buds Live or didn’t want to fork out the dough for the Buds Pro. Despite not including features like Active Noise Cancellation, the Buds Plus offer up to 22 hours of juice on a single charge, along with a three-minute quick charge. When these earbuds were originally released, they launched with the same $149 price tag as the upcoming Buds 2. However, they could be regularly found on sale, sometimes as low as $60 or $70.
With the Galaxy Buds 2, Samsung is bringing along a design more similar to that of the Buds Pro from earlier in the year. This is a refinement of the original design offered by the original Buds and the Buds Plus. But with these new headphones, Samsung is bringing both ANC and a “low-latency Ambient Sound mode”, all for just under $150. There are three built-in microphones to help with noise reduction, and the Amazon listing even states that the Buds 2 have a “comfortable, low profile design that’s 10% smaller and lighter than Galaxy Buds+.”
For the time being, you can still purchase the Galaxy Buds+ from the likes of Amazon and other big box stores. But if you would rather just wait it out for the Galaxy Buds 2, those are still available for pre-order and come in four different colors.
