Microsoft Surface Duo drops below $400 as we near Surface Duo 2 launch

Whenever a new piece of technology is released, one that doesn’t follow the “norm”, it often can be lambasted and quickly forgotten. But despite launching with outdated specs, the Microsoft Surface Duo has something going for it and it’s still being talked about. Part of the reason why it continues to come up in conversation is because the phone has been deeply discounted on and off for the past couple of months.

Today, we’re seeing the Surface Duo drop down to its lowest price ever at BuyDig, coming in at just $389 for the 128GB version. This is currently for the AT&T locked variant, meaning that you might have to do some gymnastics in order to get it unlocked for use on other carriers. But for a phone that launched at a $1,400 price point, you can save more than ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS on this unique tech.

Even if you head over to Amazon to get the same AT&T-locked version, the 128GB version is priced at just $419, while the 256GB model can be had for $529.

The Surface Duo 2 is coming sometime in the next few months, and is likely to actually match up against the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in the specs department. Recently, images of a prototype were leaked, showing off a redesigned camera bump, complete with a triple camera system. Other rumored specs include the Snapdragon 888 for power, along with 5G connectivity and NFC for wireless payments.

Microsoft saw enough success in the original Surface Duo to warrant development of a second iteration. And while pricing information has not been leaked, it will be interesting to see if the Surface Duo 2 comes in at the same $1,400 price point. If somehow Microsoft managed to bring this in around $1,000 with 2021 flagship specs, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 might have some real competition.
