Just before the weekend got kicked off, we saw a slew of renders leaked for the upcoming Moto Edge 20 and Edge 20 Pro. These are lined up to be the next major devices from Motorola, and they could be announced on August 5th.
Motorola posted an invitation to Weibo (via Android Authority) for an event scheduled on August 5th in China at 7:30 AM ET. The invitation doesn’t confirm that the Edge 20 series will be announced, instead, only showing an expanded camera sensor. But a translation of the text on the invite states there will be a focus on “cutting-edge”, so it’s likely pointing to the Edge series.
Earlier in the month, both the Moto Edge 20 and Edge 20 Pro passed through TENAA, offering a look at what these devices will offer. Both devices are expected to feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, along with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The Edge 20 is slated to be the more affordable option thanks to the inclusion of the Snapdragon 778G SoC. Meanwhile, the Edge 20 Pro could be powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset, which is a modified version of last year’s Snapdragon 865.
As for the camera system, previous leaks and rumors point to the Edge Pro making use of a 108MP primary camera. This would explain the camera focus in the invitation posted by Motorola on Weibo. To go along with this main sensor, Motorola could include a 16MP wide-angle lens, along with an 8MP telephoto sensor.
With a little more than a week to go until the event, you won’t have to wait too much longer to see what Motorola has been working on.
