You can now store your vaccination card in Google Pay

By now we imagine that quite a number of you have gotten vaccinated and after getting vaccinated, you have been given a card that proves you got your jab. This might be an important document because in the future, you might need to show it as proof if you want to travel, but the card is so small and flimsy and we imagine losing it probably wouldn’t be too difficult.

If you’d rather not lose the card, don’t worry because Google has announced that Google Pay will now be able to store your vaccination card. This is a digital copy of your proof of vaccination that you can easily pull up from your phone whenever you need, and you don’t need to worry about losing the card. According to Google:

“The user’s COVID vaccination and test information is stored on their Android device. If a user wants to access this information on multiple devices, the user will need to manually store it on each device. Google does not retain a copy of the user’s COVID vaccination or test information.”

Google reassures users that the information is private and that whatever’s on it will not be shared with Google’s other services, so you don’t need to worry about that data being used for targeted advertising. Then again, Google’s already got so much data on us, we’re sure they can get by without this.

That being said, this feature might be available to everyone just yet. This is because this requires the implementation of Google’s Passes API, so your digital vaccination card provider will need to support the API first before you can use it.
