Is your Google app constantly crashing? You’re not alone and here’s how to fix it

Early this morning, reports started rolling in claiming the latest update for the Google app, Podcasts, and Lens was continuously crashing. A prompt would appear revealing that the apps were crashing, while the Google Discover feed was unavailable. It appears that there is something going on with version 12.23.16.23 of the Google app, as this seems to be responsible for the problems across all three Google services.

This update was just released to the stable version of the Google app yesterday, so it’s rather frustrating to be dealing with issues from some of Google’s core services and apps. However, if you are still suffering from app crashing issues, there are a couple of things that you can do in order to get things back in working order.

Join the beta

The first option is to become a “tester” for the Google app beta. All you need to do is hit the link here, and tap Become a Tester. Or you can head over to the Play Store listing on your Android phone, scroll down, and tap the Join button under Join the beta.

After a few moments, you’ll be enrolled in the Google beta program. The app update will take some time to arrive, but once it does, you can install the update which comes with version 12.24, and just rolled out yesterday.

Roll it back

Another method for trying to get things back into working order is by uninstalling the 12.23 version of the Google app from your phone. This can be done by following these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap the down arrow to See All.
  4. Select Google.
  5. Tap the three-dot overflow menu in the top right corner.
  6. Tap Uninstall updates.

For the time being, this should fix your problem until version 12.24 rolls out to the stable version of the app. Or at least until the beta app update arrives on your phone.
