Honor is getting back in the game with the Honor 50 later this month

It’s been quite awhile since we’ve seen or heard anything from Huawei’s former sub-brand Honor. The company was separated from its parent company in an effort to try and continue releasing new smartphones, considering Huawei’s ongoing issues with the U.S. governement and its inability to use Google’s services. However, in recent weeks we’ve seen Honor gain support for Google Mobile Services (GMS), opening the door for a potential device launch.

Today, the company posted on Weibo (via GSMArena) that it will be holding a launch event on June 16th to unveil the new Honor 50 series of devices. The 10-second teaser doesn’t reveal much, but does share that at least one of the Honor 50 devices will sport a dual-rear camera setup.

Other rumors have suggested that the Honor 50 itself will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G processor, while a Pro model could see the same chip being used. Rumors also have revealed the existence of an Honor 50 Pro+ variant that would make use of the Snapdragon 888, found in many of today’s best Android phones.

Considering that the Pro 50+ is the flagship of the group, we’re also expecting to see a 6.79-inch QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and at least 8GB of RAM. Battery life should be solid with a 4,400mAh cell accompanied by 66W fast wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging speeds.

The only “catch” when it comes to the Honor 50 launch is that the company has already confirmed that this will be a China-only launch. Meaning that unless you import it from a site like GearBest, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer. Honor did confirm to TechRadar that there could be a global launch “later this year”, but we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out for Honor.
