MediaTek has announced its latest series of processors in the Dimensity 900. This chipset is the latest in the Dimensity series and aims to bring even more flagship-level power to mid-range handsets. It’s the first MediaTek chipset to be built on the 6nm process technology, and offers a faster CPU and better connectivity compared to the Dimensity 800.
As for what the Dimensity 900 can handle, the company provided details for what features are supported by this latest chipset. In addition to being an octa-core CPU, the 900 has camera support of up to 108MP and can record 4K video @ 30fps. Display support is limited to FHD+, but MediaTek makes up for that by providing the ability to use 120Hz refresh rates.
Connectivity is off the charts, with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and 5G support. But the Dimensity 900 also features support for dual 5G SIM cards, which is something that we wish more phones included. Plus, you’ll be able to use the dual 5G networks at the same time, along with being able to combine a single 5G with a last-generation network.
We’re not exactly sure as to when we can expect to see the Dimensity 900 introduced into its first smartphone. However, it would appear that the chipset has shown up on some benchmarks already, so it’s just a matter of time before we’re able to get our hands on a device with this new chipset.
