This one kind of slid under the radar, but it’s definitely big news if you’re a fan of having an Amazon Fire TV integrated into your television. Toshiba has announced its new lineup of Smart Fire TVs, with sizes ranging from 43-inches and going all the way up to 75-inches. This gives everyone the perfect size to choose from depending on where you want to put the television.
With these new TVs, you’re getting an additional HDMI port, along with a USB-A port and slimmer bezels, which truthfully, is long overdue for Toshiba’s Fire TV lineup. This design change brings these options more in line with what you would see from some of the best smart TVs already on the market.
A new Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode integrates your Toshiba Smart Fire TV with video feeds from smart cameras, including your doorbell camera, to provide a live view of what’s going on. But instead of taking up the entire screen, a little box will appear on top of your show so that you don’t miss the action while keeping an eye on the camera. Plus, with the included Alexa Voice Remote, you can say “Alexa, preview my front door camera”, and the PIP box will magically appear.
If you’ve seen one of the Toshiba Fire TVs from years past, you likely know that the picture quality isn’t the greatest, but it gets the job done. With the 2021 lineup, Toshiba is rectifying that complaint by making all of its new TV sets compatible with both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR 10, so you can get crisp and clean playback, regardless of what you’re watching. And with DTS Virtual: X, the speakers will throw you into the action, immersing you better than ever before.
The Toshiba Smart Fire TV lineup will be available starting on May 13th with the launch of the 43-inch and 50-inch models, before rolling out all of the other sizes. Pricing for the 43-inch model starts at $349.99 with the 50-inch version coming in at $469.99. You can pre-order these two options today, and can expect to receive them around May 18th. And if you don’t want to go through Amazon, these Toshiba televisions will be exclusively sold at Best Buy. That way, you can check out the picture quality before making a decision.
