Huawei will follow in Apple and Samsung’s footsteps and ditch the included charger

0

When Apple announced their plans to stop providing chargers with their smartphones, many made fun of the company’s decision. They also criticized the company’s decision, which Apple claims was done for environmental reasons, although you don’t really need to be an economics genius to figure out that it increases the profit margins of the iPhone.

Samsung recently made a similar decision themselves, and now it looks like Huawei will be following in those footsteps as well. This is according to a report on Weibo which claims that for Huawei’s future handsets, we may no longer be able to expect the company to supply chargers with their phones.

What’s interesting is that the reason for this isn’t what you think it is. While higher profit margins under the guise of being more environmentally-friendly seems like the perfect cover, the reason Huawei is ditching the chargers is apparently due to a lack of chips. As some of you might have heard, the world is currently facing a shortage in chips that could affect a variety of products, and in this case, phone chargers.

We’re not sure if Huawei would have ditched the chargers eventually, but either way, don’t be surprised if Huawei’s future phones do not come with the charger included.
