If you look back at the best phones of 2020, you might think that the Samsung’s best-selling phone was the Galaxy S20 or even the Galaxy Note 20. But that simply is not the case, as the big seller for the year was the Galaxy A51, which was launched early in the year and combined solid specs with an even better price. The Galaxy A71 offered a slight upgrade in the display department, but now Samsung is bringing the successors to both of these devices to the masses.
There aren’t too many differences between both the Galaxy A52 and A72, as they both are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G chipset. Storage capacities are the same, with the ability to grab either 128GB or 256GB with both models. Samsung also included the same 32MP selfie camera, along with a 64MP primary camera, 12MP ultra wide, and 5MP macro lenses on the back.

There are a few differences between these two, as the A52 is equipped with a 6.5-inch display, while the A72 features a slightly-larger 6.7-inch AMOLED display. But both phones feature a 90Hz refresh rate, which has become the minimum for many device makers outside of Apple. On the RAM front, you’ll find either 6GB or 8GB with both models, but the Galaxy A52’s entry-level device is equipped with just 4GB of RAM.
Moving back to the cameras, the fourth camera is different for both models, with the A52 seeing the inclusion of a 5MP depth sensor. Meanwhile, the A72’s fourth camera is an 8MP telephoto lens capable of 3x optical zoom, which can come in more handy than folks may realize.
Battery life should be superb regardless of which device you choose, as the A52 features a 4,500mAh battery and the A72 has a larger 5,000mAh cell. But both of these devices are capable of taking advantage of up to 25W of fast charging, so you’ll be able to top these off in no time if you’re in a pinch.
Samsung announced that both the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 is available in select markets starting today, with a wider rollout beginning later this month. In April, both of these devices will be made available in the U.S., but we don’t have a concrete release date as of yet. The color options for these new phones match up with one another, as you’ll be able to choose from Awesome Violet, Awesome Black, Awesome White, and Awesome Blue.
Pricing for the Galaxy A52 starts at just €349 with the 5G version coming in at €429. The Galaxy A72 starts at €449 and we can expect similar pricing when these phones make their way to the U.S.
