Pixel 5a leak has us all confused

We expect that later this year, Google will most likely launch new Pixel devices that will be successors to last year’s models. Could it be the Pixel 6? Maybe, or maybe not because thanks to leaked renders published by Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as @OnLeaks, the handset Google plans to launch could be called the Pixel 5a.

Unfortunately, we’re not sure how Google’s strategy is with the device because based on the leaked renders and specs, we’re pretty confused. For starters, it seems that the display of the phone will measure 6.2-inches and have an FHD+ resolution. It will also be flat with no curved edges.

There will also be a dual lens camera setup on the back and a single hole-punch camera on the front. If all of this sounds familiar, it is because these are more or less the same specs as the Pixel 4a 5G. In fact, the design of the phone itself, apart from it being slightly longer and thicker, looks more or less the same as the Pixel 4a 5G.

Last year Google confused a lot of us when they launched the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, and if the leaked renders and specs of the Pixel 5a are true, we have no idea what kind of direction Google is headed towards. It is possible that Google could still have a “true” flagship phone planned for later this year, but in the meantime, we’re not quite sure who the Pixel 5a is targeted at.
