OPPO unveils plans to bring its VOOC charging to the masses

While our smartphone batteries have remained largely the same in terms of capacity, there is one way that it has completely changed. Smartphone makers have been doing everything that they can to make it possible to charge our phones faster and faster.

One company that is leading the way is OPPO, who also makes some of the best smartphones across the world. Today, OPPO announced that it is partnering with a number of companies in an effort to bring its VOOC fast-charging to more and more users.

The three companies that OPPO has partnered with, Anker, FAW-Volkswagen, and NXP Semiconductors, will make use of the more than 2,900 patents either applied for or granted to OPPO. This new “Flash Initiative” aims to bring the fastest charging possible to much more than just a charging brick included with your smartphone.

Instead, this initiative will bring OPPO’s VOOC charging technology to cars, public spaces, and processors.

“The Flash Initiative reflects OPPO’s belief in
human-centric technologies that make a difference in people’s everyday lives. And thanks to our new partners, our proprietary technologies can reach more people than ever before. This is a vital step in freeing consumers to use their devices however they want, no matter what they need to do or where in the world they are.”

It’s only a matter of time before this technology starts making its way into devices and accessories. But just to get an idea as to what you can expect, OPPO’s VOOC chargers are capable of some pretty incredible speeds:

Flash charging is the wave of the future, as we continue to wait for our batteries to get larger and larger. And hopefully this new Flash Initiative brings fast charging to new smartphones and even things like our cars or those wireless chargers you see in Starbucks.
