This video suggests that Samsung could be developing their own AR smart glasses

Years ago, Google tried to make smart glasses a thing with the Google Glass. Perhaps society wasn’t ready for such a device back then which might explain why despite the excitement from developers, it never quite took off. Could the world be ready for such devices now?

That’s what Samsung seems to think, at least based on a recent video that was published online. The video, based on the captions, seems to come from Samsung in which they show off a pair of augmented reality glasses that will sync with other Samsung devices like smartwatches.

The way the video is shot seems to suggest that they’re promotional videos, but apparently they’re not. The videos are allegedly meant for internal use for R&D purposes and maybe for presentation to Samsung executives to convince them of the viability of such a device. It’s also not such a long shot because there are patents filed by Samsung for exactly such a device, so it’s not a stretch to think that Samsung could have cooked up some kind of concept video for it.

What makes this even more interesting is that there have been rumors suggesting that Apple themselves could be planning their own AR glasses, and since Apple and Samsung are such close rivals, it is possible that Samsung doesn’t want to let Apple have all the fun. We probably shouldn’t get our hopes up just yet for such a device to materialize anytime soon, but what do you think? Are we, as a society, ready for AR glasses to become mainstream?
